A Croix-Rouge collaboration with the government has been launched which allows people to be tested on HIV in the different laboratories of Forges du Sud, Ketterthill et des Laboratoires réunis, but also throughout the whole year at Centre hospitalier Emile Mayrisch in Esch-sur-Alzette, at the Centre hospitalier de Luxembourg, at the Centre hospitalier du Nord in Ettelbruck, and at the Laboratoire national de santé.

Meanwhile, free, anonymous and quick tests can be done every day during the National Week of HIV Testing at the HIV consultation of the Croix-Rouge at 94 rue Général Patton, from 17:00 to 19:00.

HIV in Luxembourg

In Luxembourg, estimates by the Croix-Rouge project as many as 20% of HIV infected people are unaware of it.

About a 1,000 people live with HIV in Luxembourg. The main reason is still heterosexual contact, followed by homo-and bisexual contact and the use of intravenous drugs, especially in the 26-25 age group.

Medical advances and treatments have made it possible to have HIV and control the virus. The Luxembourg Croix-Rouge, together with the government, launched this information and awareness campaign on Monday 26 June. It urged people to use condoms at all times with a sexual partner whose history one does not know. The NGO also urged people to take advantage of these tests to be able to avoid any further infections/get the right treatments as soon as possible.
