Didier Deschamps became only the third man to win the World Cup as player and coach. The Guardian reports that around 1 million fans celebrated on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

The World Cup final was interrupted briefly as 4 protestors from Russian activist outfit Pussy Riot invaded the pitch. The New York Times says the protest marked the 11th anniversary of the death of dissident poet Dmitri Prigov.

Trump’s EU “foe” remarks makes headlines

From Time magazine to Fox News via The Guardian, Donald Trump’s latest interview with CBS programme Face The Nation has sparked headlines throughout the western media. The main remark the media has picked up on was the US president’s response to being asked who his biggest foe was. “I think the European Union is a foe, what they do to us in trade,” he said before also naming Russia a foe “in certain respects”. But the president added; “that doesn’t mean they’re bad…it means that they’re competitors.”

The mission, dubbed an “anti-Trump trade show” by The Japan Times, is seen as vital to forging alliances. British prime minister Theresa May on Sunday claimed that US president Donald Trump told her she should “sue the EU” rather than negotiate with them over Brexit. The revelation was made on the BBC’s Andrew Marr show.

Musk attacks cave diver over sub claim

Tesla boss Elon Musk called British cave diver Vern Unsworth a “pedo” on Twitter following a spat about Musk’s offer to provide a submarine to help rescue the boys trapped in a Thai cave last week. Unsworth had said the submarine would not work in the complex cave system and labelled Musk’s offer a “PR stunt”. In a later tweet, Musk wrote “Bet ya a signed dollar it’s true” about his claim that Unsworth was a paedophile. The Guardian reports that there is no evidence to back Musk’s claim.

Johnson & Johnson loses talc case

The Guardian reports that the American multinational manufacturer Johnson & Johnson has been ordered to pay nearly $4.7bn in damages to 22 women who claim the company’s talcum powder contributed to them developing ovarian cancer.
