Luxembourg had the third-lowest proportion of female to male ICT students of any EU member state in 2016, but it performed better than the Netherlands and Belgium.
Eurostat reported that just below one in ten (9%) ICT students was female, well below the EU average of 17% and trailblazers Bulgaria (33%), Romania (31%), and Greece and Sweden (both 29%).
Luxembourg improved slightly when it came to female representation in specialised ICT roles, coming in at fifth from the bottom with 12%. Again, the grand duchy was below the 17% EU average for gender diversity in this sector of the labour market and performed half as well as leaders Bulgaria (26.5%), Romania and Lithuania (both 25.7%).
