Interest subsidies for home owners and rent subsidies for tenants are available, the ministry noted.

Henri Kox, the housing minister (Green party), stated in a press release:

“I’m appealing to tenants and property owners whose income has dropped significantly due to the current crisis to makes enquires at the single point of contact for housing assistance to see if they can benefit from housing assistance. It is possible the ministry can provide significant support.”

The housing ministry said it will raise the income threshold to qualify for rent subsidies and the amount of aid available on 1 April.

The monthly income cap to be eligible, for example, for a single person will rise from €1,768 to €2,650, with the maximum monthly rent subsidy rising from €124 to €134. For a household with 2 children, the income ceiling goes from €3,713 to €5,500, with maximum subsidies changing from €174 to €187 per month.

The housing ministry also reminded landlords that earlier this week the government froze residential evictions during the state of emergency.
