On Monday 28 August, they presented the slogan “gréng wierkt”—meaning either green works or green acts—which stands for their commitment to their core issues, such as the environment, biodiversity, mobility, but also the economy and housing, putting the accent on sustainability.

The Greens are currently present in 32 local councils; they are part of the political majority in 14 of them and hold the post of mayor in three local authorities. They go into the local campaign with 466 candidates, divided into 34 lists. They have been able to set up lists for the first time in Clervaux, Steinfort and Schuttrange.

Their aim is to improve the 2011 results. Co-leader Françoise Folmer said her priority was gender equality; while their lists had 50% women, fewer women were elected, and this needed to change.

The Greens argue that air and water quality are bad and need to be improved.

Her colleague, Christian Kmiotek, offered several policy options to deal with mobility issues, such as 30km/h limits, new parking concepts, more pedestrian zones, and more car-sharing.

Childcare in local authorities also needs to be improved, said Kmiotek.
