While the Royal Hamilius on boulevard Royal is still some way off completion, the car park attached to the new office, residential and retail complex was opened to the public on Thursday--some 25 months after the old Aldringen car park which it replaces was closed down.

The new car park, managed by Apcoa Parking, has a capacity for 628 vehicles--228 for season ticket holders and 400 for day users, including 15 electric vehicle charging spaces and a significant number of spaces reserved for females, pregnant women and families and drivers with reduced mobility. The car parking spaces, measuring 2.4 metres wide, have been designed to accommodate today’s larger vehicles.

Fees for parking in the new car park between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. start at €3 for each of the first 2 hours, €2 for the third hour, €2.40 each for the 4th and 5th hour, and €3.20 for each hour after that. Parking there between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. will cost just €0.80 per hour.

Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer (DP) says the car park brings to 3,400 the number of spaces available in the city centre, with a total of 14,000 available across the capital. The car park is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Royal Hamilius building, which will include a Galeries Lafayette store and a rooftop garden and restaurant as well as offices and luxury apartments, is due to open at the end of 2019.
