Consumer confidence is at an all-time high, according to the Luxembourg Central Bank’s May index Maison Moderne

Consumer confidence has reached a record high. The Luxembourg Central Bank‘s index was 17 in May, up from 8‎ the same time last year.

Unemployment in the eurozone decreased from 9.4%‎ in March to 9.3% in April, the lowest rate since March 2009. That’s according to Eurostat, the EU statistics agency. Across the entire EU, the jobless figure dropped from 8.7% in April 2016 to 7.8% in April 2017, the lowest rate since December 2008. Unemployment in Luxembourg declined from 6% in March 2017 to 5.9% in April 2017, according to Eurostat.

50 employees will be made redundant at the oil refining equipment firm John Zink in Dudelange. The firm has originally wanted to cut 54 posts. A deal was struck following 2 months of talks between labour leaders, the government mediator and company executives.

The Chamber of Deputies has voted to revise section 32-4 of the constitution, concerning states of emergency. Under the new version, the government can only declare a state of emergency (such as during a terrorist attack) for a maximum of 10 days; an extension to 3 months would require the support of two-thirds of MPs. Parliament could not be dissolved during this time.
