In a press release published on its site, the federation of hoteliers, restaurateurs and cafetiers of Luxembourg (Horesca) "demands the possibility to close at 1 am", instead of midnight as it currently stands.

"The arrival of autumn days with fairly low temperatures hardly allow us to welcome patrons of cafes and restaurants on the terraces," the federation states. This extension would then allow establishments to better space out the reception of clients over time, to maintain safety distances. They could possibly offer two services in the evening, for example.

The federation is already anticipating the new year as well and the organisation of festivities linked to it, which would provide "an essential breath of fresh air".

"Horesca understands very well that the sanitary situation and health come before everything else, but given the rather stable figures of the pandemic in our country and by analysing the places of contamination, we believe that an hour of additional opening remains reasonable, knowing that we have to live with the virus,” it concludes.
