The agreement was reached after lengthy negotiations between Kersch (and his predecessor), the UEL business association, the ACEL and UNEL student unions, and the Chamber of Employees.

The bill will set out two types of internships, the labour ministry said in a press statement on 24 May.

One will be run under the auspices of schools and “form an integral part of a curriculum”.

The other would be initiated by students “out of school, conducted to acquire professional experience,” the labour ministry said.

In addition, the bill will regulate the length and terms of internships, as well as work placement allowances.

All internships will be paid, Kersch told the French-language paper L’essentiel.
