Members of Juncker's inner circle had told news agency Agence France Press (AFP) of the operation on Thursday. RTL reports that a Juncker spokesperson confirmed that the operation is to treat an aneurysm. 

This summer, Juncker also underwent surgery to have his gall bladder removed.
