Following an agreement signed on Tuesday between the health ministry and the Luxembourg insurance and reinsurance association, Luxembourg has become the third country in Europe, after France and Belgium, to implement a “right to be forgotten” scheme for health insurance.

This means that clients who have previously been deemed high risk because they have survived cancer or, under certain conditions, have been infected with Hepatitis C or HIV, will not be made to pay exorbitant insurance premiums.

Health minister Étienne Schneider (LSAP) said the agreement was “a first step towards treating patients who have suffered from a serious illness fairly compared to other citizens.”
