Luxembourg’s population increased by 11,889 in 2018, bringing the total number of residents close to 614,000 on 1 January 2019.
According to figures published on the country’s statistic platform, Statec, the growth was mostly down to net migration.
In the course of 2018, some 26,644 people arrived in the country while 13,985 left. Non-Luxembourg nationals made up 47% of the population. The growth figures were further bolstered by some 6,274 births, balancing out the 4,318 registered deaths.
The average age of the population was 40.2 years for women and 38.7 for men. Foreign residents were, on average, significantly younger than Luxembourg residents.
