While orders rose 1,434% from 2019 to 2020, sales jumped 803% over the same time.

To help traders, the ministry for middle classes waived the registration fee that year, a gesture that was extended for 2021.

The ministry said in a statement issued on Tuesday: “An encouraging sign for the future is that many of the consumers who made their first purchases on Letzshop in 2020 remained loyal to the marketplace. This is due in part to the wide variety of products that consumers can now find on Letzshop, which is growing every day.”

According to its figures, the platform listed 387,870 products online of which 2,270 were made in Luxembourg.

Letzshop coordinator Philippe Herremans said: “It is true that in 2020 Letzshop's progress has been particularly impressive, and we are confident about the platform's development potential. Our ambition is to help local merchants integrate e-commerce into their daily lives, so that we can continue to offer consumers attractive cities and towns with strong and dynamic local commerce.”
