Wasp nest destruction, says the NGO, should only be considered as a last resort.
When summer arrives, so do wasps as they take to mating flights. Local NGO natur&ëmwelt is advocating for the public to better understand these insects and has created a network of consultants to help.
The volunteer consultants are available to advise Luxembourg residents on how to deal with wasps and their nests in a bid to find a solution that won’t resort in stings or the unnecessary killing of wasps, which are ecologically important not only in their roles as pollinators, but also when it comes to predation and parasitism.
The organisation has further developed an informational brochure to educate the public on ways to avoid stings as well as solutions to deal with nests, such as installing special screening on windows or outdoors to help deflect the wasps’ flight paths. The organisation can also help identify wasp species.
