Airbnb used internal data to calculate its hot list. The outfit compared 2019 bookings as of September 2018 and 2020 bookings as of September 2019, and then ranked destinations by the year-over-year difference.
Luxembourg placed 8th on the list with a 167% year-on-year gain.
Airbnb stated on 9 October:
“This diminutive European country packs a lot into its small landmass — the city of Luxembourg was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 thanks to its enchanting historic core, dramatically perched on a clifftop. Beyond the city itself, the country’s forested hills are home to medieval castles, rocky gorges, charming villages and superb vineyards.”
Some of the other big gainers were Milwaukee in the US state of Wisconsin (729% year-over-year increase), Buriram province in Thailand (383%), Romania (298%), the Pacific island of Vanuatu (140%) and Aberdeen in Scotland (119%).
