The figures were published by Luxembourg’s national health laboratory, the LNS, referring to data from the Sentinelle flu surveillance network, on which it partners with the department of microbiology.

Out of 562 consultations, a fifth (22%) concerned respiratory infections.

They showed that from 29 January to 4 February, flu levels were exceptionally high, though they had fallen slightly compared to the week before, when there were 92 confirmed cases.

From October to April, GPs communicate clinical data from one day each week relating to the number of patients consulted and those with flu-like symptoms or acute respiratory infections. Samples are taken from patients with flu-like symptoms and tested for the flu virus, enabling researchers to put a figure on case numbers.
