22,490 people moved to Luxembourg last year, while 14,870 left the country, resulting in net migration of 7,620 people. Additionally, 6,459 babies were born while 4,609 people died.

This overall resulted in a population growth of 8,622 people, national statistics office Statec said in a report published on 1 April.

Luxembourg nationals accounted for 52.8% of the population at the start of the year.

There were fewer weddings in 2020--1,803 compared to 2,143 in 2019--with Statec saying this was likely because of pandemic restrictions last year. On the other hand, 1,447 couples got divorced.

The population is divided into 319,456 men and 315,274 women. Life expectancy for men is at 80.1 years of age, while women it is at 84.6.
