The campaign is one of a number of actions being organised in Luxembourg mark the start of the UN 16-day call for activism against gender-based violence.

On Friday afternoon, members of the public can attend a forum at the University of Luxembourg. The event includes two panels: one on children and adolescents witnessing violence against women and the second on violence against women.

On Friday morning, at 11:30am, people can show their support by participating in a flash mob at Place Winston Churchill, Luxembourg-Centre. Participation is free and no prior registration is required.

Finally, at 11am on Saturday, campaign supporters can join in an Orange March, starting from place du Glacis in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg, organised by Golden Z Club.

Physical and sexual violence

According to European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights survey data, 38% of women in Luxembourg have experienced physical or sexual violence and 30% have been stalked. Meanwhile, 67% of women in Luxembourg said they had been sexually harassed, significantly higher than the EU average of 55%

And in Luxembourg?

Luxembourg has introduced a number of measures to combat violence against women, including offering special training to police officers to better support victims. And in 2013, a legal framework on domestic violence recognized children who have witnessed violence as victims, extending the law to cover every person living in a family with an alleged perpetrator.

In Luxembourg, help is available to victims of physical or sexual violence through the helpline Fraentelefon (12344), which is available in English from Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm, the sexual violence helpline (48 58 54), the domestic violence victim support service (SAVVD Femmes en Détresse, 26 48 18 62, [email protected]), and the services for victims of trafficking SAVTEH ([email protected]) and COTEH ([email protected]).
