That’s according to preliminary figures released by the education ministry on 12 September.

About 88.8% of primary pupils attend state schools and 11.2% attend private ones.

Around 79.6% of secondary students attend state schools and 20.4% attend private institutions.

The biggest state schools are the Lycée technique Mathias Adam in Lamadelaine (with 1,890 students), the Lycée technique du Centre in the capital city's Limpertsberg neighbourhood (1,879) and the Lycée technique de Bonnevoie (1,820).

The largest private schools are the European schools (total enrollment: 5,997) followed by the Lycée Vauban (2,518) and International School of Luxembourg (1,377).

Altogether, there are 105,317 school students in Luxembourg*, up from 103,728 during the 2018/2019 academic year.

The education ministry also stated that 50,996 youngsters benefitted from the childcare service voucher scheme (CSA) as of December 2018. 96.4% were resident in Luxembourg and 3.6% were dependents of cross-border commuters. The total was 48,091 children in December 2017.
