Luxembourg photographer Ann Sophie Lindström captured Philadelphia’s urban riding culture in her series “Don’t fence me in” Ann Sophie Lindström

Showcasing her work at the Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism in Hannover, which opens on Wednesday, Lindström joins five other Europeans on the World Press Photo Foundation’s programme.

Lindström was nominated by German photographer and producer Uwe H. Martin from Bombay Flying Club. He said:

“Ann Sophie Lindström is one of the most interesting upcoming visual storytellers today, whose projects bridge photography and moving image documentary. Her current film, ‘The Bitter with the Sweet’, takes the intimacy, obvious in all of Ann Sophie's work, to the next level.”

The documentary features the music of Luxembourg talent Yannick Stein.

In her photography work, Lindström has documented the lives of a group of punks trying to survive in a capitalistic urban jungle in her series “Punk ist kein Kaffeekränzchen” (punk is not a coffee morning), and the African American urban horse community in a high-crime neighbourhood of Philadelphia in “Don’t fence me in”.
