The online dictionary www.lod.lu, which translates from English, French, German and Portuguese into Luxembourgish and vice versa, and provides examples, has created the new website.

Especially in the medical sector, there can be communication mishaps in our multilingual society. Therefore, this new online tool can be useful. It provides medical terms in Luxembourgish, which are explained through examples, and which can be translated into French, German, English and Portuguese. Searches can be made in any of these languages. It is therefore useful for both patients and health sector employees.

A few months ago, there was a public petition to oblige all health sector workers to be able to speak Luxembourgish. However, the petition did not have much success and did not get enough signatures to be debated before parliament.
