Despite rumours about the fire being triggered by an electric vehicle, RTL reports that it was most likely not an electric car which caused the fire, adding that if it had been, the vehicle would have been removed from the car park to prevent the battery catching fire again. What’s more, it adds, the car park is some 35 years old without a sprinkler system on level -1.

Those whose cars were parked in the car park when the fire broke out have been asked not to enter it but rather to contact their insurance companies so the vehicles can be towed away.

In an interview with RTL, Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer added that the Neipperg car park, set to open after renovations at the start of November, would be a “good alternative”, as would the car park on rue de Commerce.
