After a fraught couple of days, Theresa May this morning made public the date of her departure from no.10 Downing Street. The Guardian says May’s fate was sealed after her latest Brexit deal was publicly and vocally rejected by Conservative MPs and members of her own cabinet earlier this week.

CNN reports that the leadership of the influential 1922 Committee of the Tory party had threatened to change party rules to allow a vote of no-confidence--May survived a vote in January, and the current rules state the party must wait 12 months before another vote is allowed.

According to the FT, May has said she would continue in a caretaker role until a new leader of the Conservative party is elected--a process that could be concluded by the end of July.

Meanwhile, The Guardian has a look at the Tories expected to enter the leadership race.
