To stop motorists speeding in front of the local sports centre, the commune painted the tarmac of rue Jean Anen with a giant rainbow and colourful dots.

These photos were posted on its Facebook page on 14 August. The practical installation is not appreciated by everyone, however.

Interviewed by RTL, mobility minister François Bausch (Green party) explained on Tuesday that painting the road was a breach of Article 110 from the highway code.

Sanem mayor Georges Engel (LSAP) responded by suggesting that the highway code should be amended. He reportedly has no plans to remove the road rainbow.
