The 1 August 2018 law paved the way for the creation of a national consultation body for parents in Luxembourg to improve collaboration between schools and parents at primary, secondary and in specialist education centres.

On Monday, the ministry launched an awareness-raising campaign, calling for greater engagement by parents to get involved on a local level by voting for representatives for the school their child or children attend. In total there will be four representatives for primary, six for secondary and two for specialist learning centres.

When do they take place?

Primary school elections for parent representatives in each school take place in October 2019. Sectoral or regional representatives will be elected out of all parent representatives in the region’s schools in January 2020. The national elections then take place in February 2020.

Secondary schools elect their parents’ committees before 1 November. Sectoral representatives will then vote for six national representatives in February 2020.

Parents of children in special education and counselling centres elect two sectoral representatives before the end of 2019. All sectoral representative will vote for two national representatives in February 2020.
