Four young residents who spent their summer touring every commune in Luxembourg are reliving their staycation memories in short, weekly video instalments.
“The Every Corner Tour” saw four friends embark on an ambitious tour of the country, using only public transport and a shoestring budget. Two months since they left their last commune, they published their first video episode on YouTube.
“The idea was to make something halfway between documentary and entertainment, a sort of hybrid that would enable viewers to discover the whole of Luxembourg through our journey and hopefully learn new things about the country, while also having a laugh and enjoying themselves,” Mika told Delano, adding: “We hope that it will be a fresh and interesting way to promote all there is to see in Luxembourg, both for locals and tourists."
The friends came up with the idea to explore all 102 of Luxembourg’s communes during lockdown. Despite touring during a heatwave in which the mercury tipped 38°C on some days, they sought out interesting facts, stories and legends about each commune and got to meet the locals. In Frisange, for instance, they were invited to eat madeleines at Léa Linster’s Michelin-starred restaurant, and they met tourism minister Lex Delles.
“The West [of Luxembourg] surprised me the most, as we returned to more of a medieval and renaissance castle region, which I personally did not expect,” said Julien. “The last few small communes like Wahl and Grosbous were impressive for their beautiful forests and walking paths, and I was also surprised by the size and number of things to see in the commune of Mersch.”
The first episode takes in the communes of Colmar Berg and Diekirch. Subsequent episodes will be published each Thursday over 12 weeks.
