According to data by the Synergy Research Group, 44 percent of those centers are located in the United States.

The next most prominent locations are China, Japan and the UK, which together account for another 20 percent of the worldwide total.

Hyperscale data centers are considered to have a minimum of 5,000 servers and are at least 10,000 sq. ft. in size but are often even larger.

The data in the chart considers operations by 24 of the world’s major cloud and internet service firms, including Amazon/AWS, Microsoft, IBM and Google, Oracle, Alibaba, Apple, Twitter, Facebook, eBay, LinkedIn, Yahoo and Tencent, Baidu.
