Among Wolfwalkers' latest wins: best indie feature at the 2021 Annie Awards

Eight days before the Oscars, the Annie Awards--considered the “Oscars of animated cinema"--took place on Saturday. Two films had won practically everything in terms of nominations: Soul from Pixar studios and Wolfwalkers, the Irish (Cartoon Saloon)-Luxembourg (Melusine Productions) co-production bought by Apple.

"Soul" left with seven awards, including best film amongst productions with a budget of more than $60m.

Wolfwalkers and Mélusine Productions have been awarded five times, including the prize for best independent film, which includes productions with a budget under $60m.

Accolades have been rolling in for the Luxembourg co-production, with even Peter Ramsay, director of Rise of the Guardians and Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, taking to social media about it.

The Luxembourg co-production also won the categories of best character design, best direction, Best production design and best dubbing.

These wins follow Wolfwalkers’ nominations for best animated feature from the Oscars, BAFTA Awards, Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and Producers Guild of America Awards.

Wolfwalkers is still available to watch on Apple TV+, the Apple platform, as well as in Luxembourg cinemas (Luxembourgish version).
