That was the message from Lycée Michel Lucius representatives at an information event organised by the Luxembourgish Schools Support Group on Tuesday evening.

The primary school planned for the capital will be the second free international school in Luxembourg after the Differdange International School when it opens its doors in September 2017.

It will follow the Cambridge curriculum for core subjects, which will be taught in English “within a Luxembourg context”.

Luxembourgish will be taught as a compulsory language of integration and communication in all years at the primary school. Meanwhile, when pupils reach Year 3 (key stage 2), they will be taught either French or German as a foreign language.

No location has been given for the new school, which cannot be built next to the existing Lycée Michel Lucius in Limpertsberg. The education ministry has assured it will be in the capital.

Parents may enroll their child to begin in September provided they are at least 6 years old by 1 September.

The new school will include years groups 1 to 6 (cycles 2, 3 and 4) and there will also be pre-school and after-school activities.

The school representatives said that to be eligible, pupils do not need to be native English speakers or live in the capital.

Further information about the admissions criteria, application forms and details on the location are expected to be made available by the education ministry after the Easter school holidays.

Lycée Michel Lucius has offered an international section at secondary since 2011. Today it counts 1,450 students, of which 450 study in the international section.
