Scheduled to open in 2022, the 27,700m2, eight-storey space will feature the public post office area on the ground floor and offices on the other floors.

Operations at the Gare post office were temporarily moved to the Mercier building in rue de Reims in 2017 to allow the former site to be demolished.

Only the façade of Accinauto, to the right of building, will be retained because it has protected status, the firm said at a press conference on Friday.

The new building, which is designed by Metaform architects, has been budgeted at €100m. It is expected to meet the highest DGNB environmental certification standards.

“These projects and successive moves are the steps of a process that we have been carrying out for several years and which aims to improve efficiency by bringing our teams together, improving the daily lives of our employees and enhancing our property portfolio,” Post Luxembourg managing director Claude Strasser said.
