Léglu, 50, who officially starts her new role on 1 September, replaces Romain Martin, who began his role as senior advisor in Luxembourg’s higher education ministry this April. Martin had been a driving force behind several initiatives at the Uni, including the Competence Centre for lifelong learning and the Luxembourg Learning Centre (LLC).

Since 2011, Léglu has been a professor of medieval French and Occitan literature at the University of Reading (UK), where she also headed the department of modern languages and European studies. She holds a PhD in medieval literature from Cambridge University.

She formerly taught at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris and was attached to the departments of French studies at the University of Bristol and Queen's University in Belfast.

“I am delighted to join the Unversity of Luxembourg,” Léglu said in a communiqué. “Although young, it is remarkable in many ways, allowing students to acquire advanced skills in an interdisciplinary spirit and in a resolutely international approach.”

Rector Stéphane Pallage praised Léglu’s “international orientation and her interest in digital humanities”.
