In total, 25 communes have signed up for the programme from 16-22 September, of which six meet the criteria to make it through to the next round in a Europe-wide contest.

What is more, seven communes are proposing to go car-free for one day.

This year, events are organised under the slogan “Mix and Move” the programme focuses on encouraging people to use a combination of different modes of transport to reduce carbon-emitting private car use.

Activities offered in Luxembourg include cycle rides, presentations of electric mobility options, and the distribution of coffee and croissants to people using public transport and goodie bags to cyclists in the capital.

Meanwhile, on Sunday several roads in the Mullerthal region will be closed to motorised traffic to enable cyclists to safely visit the area. Further details can be found here.
