The “Nova Find” system was installed in June 2020 and helps to automatically match recorded items that have been lost with those that are found.

Mobility minister François Bausch (déi Gréng) wrote while responding to a parliamentary question that from June 2020 to 30 April 2021, the service recorded 3,540 lost items in the new software. During the same period, 2,475 people came forward to claim a lost item of which 40% were reunited with their property.

It should be noted that public transport use fell during the pandemic because of remote working and health concerns. Prior to the pandemic, CFL recorded 800 lost items per month, Bausch said.

CFL’s lost and found service is operated at the central train station in Luxembourg City and is open on weekdays from 6.15am-9.30pm, and from 9am to 4.30pm on weekends.

Unclaimed items are kept for two months after which they are distributed to different charitable organisations. Objects of value such as purses, jewellery and electronic equipment are transferred twice a week to the police.
