The penultimate event in the 2019 paralympics Grand Prix series saw Luxembourger Tom Habscheid not only win in his category in both the shot put and discus, but also break the year’s best with a throw of 45.78 metres in the latter contest.

On Friday morning Habscheid won the shot put with a throw of 14.45 metres on his final effort. On Sunday the athlete from Useldange also saved his best for last with the winning throw in the discus.

Habscheid, who suffers from congenital femoral deficiency, represented Luxembourg at the Paralympics in Rio in 2016. In February this year he won gold and set a new work record in the shot put of 14.97 metres at the Grand Prix in Dubai. He is still hoping to one day break the 15-metre barrier in that discipline.
