Finland topped a ranking of EU countries compiled by Eurostat, with 25.1% of employed people aged 15 to 64 working from home as their usual place of work.
Luxembourg’s 23.1% were followed by Ireland (21.5%), Austria (18.1%) and the Netherlands (17.8%).
Croatia (3.1%), Romania (2.5%) and Bulgaria (1.2%) saw the lowest number working from home on a regular basis in 2020.
The EU average was at 12.3%, more than doubling from the roughly 5% observed in the decade before the pandemic.
People aged 25 to 49 were most likely to be working from home (24.5% in Luxembourg compared to 13% across the EU).
Self-employed individuals were also more likely to usually work from home (39.8% in Luxembourg) compared to employees (21.8%) but the increase was much less marked. In 2019, 37.7% of self-employed people in the grand duchy already indicated working from home, compared to just 8.9% of employees.
