The station is scheduled to open 10 December, in the valley beneath the red bridge, from which passengers will be able to reach the Kirchberg plateau’s tram and bus network using the funicular, expected to open the same day.

According to the CFL website, it will be served by four trains per hour in each direction. In a first phase, rail passengers travelling from the north will be able to take a direct train to the new station while those coming from stations south of the capital or over the border will have to change trains at the central station.

More direct trains from the south are expected to be introduced in the future when the station will be served by six trains every hour in each direction.

Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg, as the station will be known, is one of nine transport hubs in the capital aimed at battling congestion.
