Set up in 2011, Empath has developed an AI (artificial intelligence) that is capable of recognising emotions in the human voice, a technology that has already lead to them counting the Japanese giant Fujitsu as a client. It is now also being marketed in 50 countries.

The award was presented on 15 May 2018 at the ICT Spring Conference and is the fourth edition of the Pitch Your Startup competition. Other finalists included the Luxembourg company Mu design and the French company Sniffer.

According to Empath’s Hazumu Yamazaki, “Our goal is to be purchased by Google, but this will take time.”

As winners, Empath pick up a cash prize of €50,000 and a “service package” offered by Luxinnovation, the promotion agency, as well as two places in the Luxembourg City Incubator, based in the House of Startups set to be inaugurated on 1 June 2018.
