Luxembourg is particularly generous with 10 public holidays, a figure which looks set to rise to 11 with the addition of Europe Day in 2019.

After 1 January, workers will have to wait a little longer than in 2018 for the next public holiday as Easter Monday falls almost four months later, on 22 April.

Three public holidays fall in May, thanks to the government’s addition of Europe Day on Thursday 9 May.

1 May falls slap bang in the middle of the week, on a Wednesday, but some well time days off before and after could help some workers enjoy a long weekend at home or away. There are opportunities to “faire le pont” (bridge the weekend) as Europe Day falls on Thursday 9 May and Ascension falls on Thursday 30 May. Just 10 days later will be Pentecost, on Monday 10 June.

One of Luxembourg’s major annual celebrations, the grand duke’s birthday celebration, will fall on a weekend, with the public holiday on Sunday 23 June. Workers will find this day added to their annual holiday allocation. Assumption falls on a Thursday, on 15 August, while All Saints Day will be on Friday 1 November.

Christmas and 26 December fall mid-week in 2019, on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. These dates were provided by the works inspectorate, ITM with the exception of 9 May.
