In its last statement on the police reform proposals, the state council overstepped its competencies, giving a “political interpretation” instead of just checking the legal conformity. The issue of contention was the criminal investigation arm of the police.

“The opinion of the state council clearly takes the side of the judicial authorities and ignores all other existing analyses”, according to the police trade union.

While the trade union wants it to be under the authority of the police, the state council considers it to fall under the authority of the judiciary.
