Police figures revealed that in 2017 there were 7 fatal accidents involving motorcyclists and, during the first half of 2018, half of all victims of road traffic accidents were bikers.

Police advise motorcyclists to prepare themselves for the summer biking season.

“As well as a technical check-up, ‘contrôle technique’ for the bike, the body and mind also need to be fit for purpose. After the winter break, riders must get used to the strong acceleration and deceleration of their vehicles again. The overestimation of the engine’s capabilities is a major risk factor for accidents,” police said in a statement.

General instructions for bikers are:

  • Moderate your speed;
  • Increase braking time;
  • Do not assume you will be given priority;
  • Always expect mistakes from other road users in daily traffic;
  • Always look one more time in the rear-view mirror before a manoeuvre.
