Rail users are urged to travel earlier than usual at certain times in 2018 to offset disruptions caused by works on the rail lines Delano archive

Rail operator CFL announced on Monday that the works will be carried out at weekends in some cases, but in others they will fall on weekdays and will last several weeks.

“In the majority of cases, travellers should set out earlier to arrive at their destination on time,” CFL said in a statement.

Which lines and when?

Line 10 will undergo work to remove rail crossings in Walferdange and Lorentzweiler as well as to modernise and update various other infrastructure.

It means the following service will be affected:

  • Ettelbruck and Diekirch, 31 March to 15 April, 25 August to 7 October, 27 October to 11 November, the weekend of 17-18 November.
  • Luxembourg and Diekirch, 25 August to 16 September, 2-4 November, the weekends of 3-4 March, 10-11 March, 17-18 March and 29-30 March.
  • Ettelbruck and Troisvierges, 31 March to 3 April, weekends of 7-8 April and 20-21 October.
  • Luxembourg and Dommeldange, weekends of 28-29 April, 5-6 May, 19-20 May, 30 June to 1 July, 6-7 October and 13-14 October.
  • Kautenbach and Wiltz, weekend of 13-14 October.

Line 30 will be affected by the construction of a second viaduct at Pulvermühle and the doubling of the Luxembourg-Sandweiler track.

It means the following will be affected:

  • Luxembourg and Oetrange, weekends of 3-4 March, 10-11 March, 28-29 April, 5-6 May, 19-20 May, 30 June to 1 July, 29-30 September, 6-7 October and 13-14 October.

Line 50 will be affected by the modernisation of Kleinbettingen station and improvements to the electricity supply.

It means the following will be affected:

  • Luxembourg and Arlon, from 31 March to 15 April, from 14 July to 16 September.

Lines 60 and 90 will be impacted by the construction of a new Bettembourg-Luxembourg line, works to build the Howald exchange hub, preparatory works to close the Schifflange railway crossing and other infrastructure.

It means the following will be affected:

  • Luxembourg and Bettembourg, 10-18 February, 14 July to 24 August, weekends of 21-22 April, 10-11 November and 17-18 November.
  • Esch-sur-Alzette and Rodange, from 19-27 May, 25 August to 16 September.
  • Bettembourg and Esch-sur-Alzette, 31 March to 15 April, 27 October to 4 November and the weekends of 5-6 May (from 10pm Saturday) and 7 October.

Line 70

  • Dippach and Pétange, the weekends of 24-25 November and 1-2 December
