US Chargé d'Affaires Kerri Hannan and first husband Gauthier Destenay raise the rainbow flag in the grounds of the US embassy Matic Zorman

US Chargé d'Affaires Kerri Hannan was joined on Friday morning by first husband Gauthier Destenay, LSAP deputy Marc Angel, ambassadors to Luxembourg and representatives from Rosa Lëtzebuerg and the gay and lesbian information and consultation centre, CIGALE, to honour LGBTI Pride month. Destenay and Angel assisted Hannan in raising the Rainbow Flag alongside the stars and stripes and the company then retired to the embassy residence to enjoy rainbow cake.

“Pride month is a recognition of the LGBTI community and all the contributions they make,” Hannan told Delano. Hannen said that promoting the idea that human rights and dignity for all are important is a high priority of the US government, and for representatives of the US embassy. “Living in Luxembourg, it is easy to see the LGBTI community integrated. But there are still places where it is criminal to be gay, to be transgender, and so it’s important that we continue to raise awareness.”
