Sam Tanson (déi Gréng) presented the outcome of a subsidy programme launched on 27 May 2020.

Around €1.5m was issued to arts venues to compensate for financial losses incurred because of lockdown in 2020. The culture ministry also acquired art worth €147,000 from Luxembourg galleries during the pandemic as well as buying works worth €107,270 directly from artists.

The ministry also issued subsidies to support artistic creation, develop concepts to welcome audiences under distancing rules, funding for self-employed artists and projects to help regional museums and tourist attractions through the crisis.

Tanson said that procedures for artists to apply for funding would be simplified and digitalised in future. In addition, existing support programmes will be reformed to better meet the needs of artists.

The government on 2 June adopted a reform plan, which must now be discussed by parliamentarians before being voted into law.
