According to our sister magazine Paperjam, 52,775 new registrations were recorded by the National Society of Technical Control (SNCT).

Volkswagen still dominates the Luxembourg automobile market, which achieved its best results last year since statistics began in 1991. This represents 2,214 new registrations over 2016 and 416 more than in 2008, the last record year for the Luxembourg automotive market. While observers expected that the threshold of 54,000 new registrations would be crossed at December 31, December proved to be particularly disappointing in terms of sales, with only 2,844 new registrations. The average monthly stood at 4,398 new passenger cars or mixed-use cars sold last year.

On the manufacturers' side, the best-selling brands last year were Volkswagen (6,309 new registrations), BMW (4,943), Mercedes (4,589) and Audi (4,468). This German quartet is followed by Renault (4,053), Peugeot (3,034), Opel (2,305), Skoda (2,119), Ford (1,866) and Hyundai (1,782).
