Given the health situation, the general census of the population, originally scheduled for 1 June, has been postponed to 8 November, the economy ministry said on Thursday in a statement.

The population census, which is conducted by household with an obligation to respond, is carried out every 10 years by Statec and the communes. To limit contacts, census agents will drop the paper questionnaire into mailboxes and will not hand it out. People can complete the questionnaire and return it by mail. It will also be possible to answer electronically via myguichet.lu. And if the recruiting agent will not be able to help households to answer questions, a free helpline will be opened to contact Statec.

A consequence of the census, notes the release, is the possible change in the number of members of the communal councillors assigned to each municipality, determined according to the census results. A provision that will be changed in the future: from the communal elections of 2023, the determination of the number of members of the communal council will be carried out “on the basis of the population of residents resulting from the population registers,” says the interior ministry.
