Ron Tuffel RIP
Luxembourg is mourning one of its most soulful characters today. Ron Tuffel passed away after succumbing to cancer.
Born in Texas, Ron Tuffel grew up in Kansas, lived in New Jersey as a teenager and studied at Miami University in Ohio before moving to Luxembourg, initially for a year as a basketball pro. He was a sports teacher and basketball coach at the International School of Luxembourg, where he inspired many of his young charges. But he also had an enduring love affair with music, and especially the blues, soul and funk. Ron was a presenter on Radio Ara, hosting various shows including a Tuesday evening slot and Jump Jive Jam which focused on African-American influenced music in its broadest sense.
Ron was keen to promote local music and events, and would invite guests on to his show and talk passionately about their work. He was clearly in love with Luxembourg and all that it had to offer and told Delano in an interview in 2012. “I am Luxembourgish in a way--a nouveau Luxembourger--and proud to be so. I am obviously American by birth, but I have lived here longer than I have lived in the United States, and when I vacation there after a month I say ‘let’s go home’.”
