Guylaine Hanus is business manager at the House of Entrepreneurship, quite literally the one-stop shop for setting up a business in Luxembourg. Her advice is: “If you want to set up in Luxembourg, the most important first step is to get all the information on the authorisation you need, as well as fiscal and legal advice on who can support you in launching your project.”

Luxembourg authorities are rigorous about who can set up shop and, as such, are quite demanding. They insist that you can demonstrate that you are capable of running a business, especially where you are likely to employ other people.

Your first port of call should be the House of Entrepreneurship. As Hanus said: “Our mission is to inform, guide and connect entrepreneurs and work towards a more flexible regulatory framework and simplified bureaucracy to the benefit of small businesses.”

Luxembourg also has a dedicated House of Startups, which, according to CEO Karin Schintgen, “brings together the actors of change: innovation hubs, accelerators, experts and corporates.”

International chambers of business, including the British Chamber of Commerce and the American Chamber of Commerce and Paperjam Club also hold information and training events aimed at helping expats get started in Luxembourg.
