Launched by Azo, on behalf of the European Space Agency, the contest aims to find innovative solutions to strengthen the benefits of space exploration to society. Spaceresources.lu will feature a prize in the contest and is looking for ideas which complement Luxembourg’s space resources utilisation goals.

Within this context, the economy ministry is interested in areas related to the space resources utilisation chain, such as prospection, extraction, processing, manufacturing and servicing. The scope of the contest includes enabling technologies and related fields, including material science, additive manufacturing, remote sensing, communications, robotics, data analytics and artificial intelligence.

Companies, university teams, scientific institutions, startups, consortia and individuals from around the world can enter the competition, which closes on 31 July. For the grant to be awarded, the winner will have to establish and register a Luxembourg-based company and provide a sound business plan as well as a project proposal that are evaluated successfully. A team at the economy ministry will guide the winner throughout this process.

This marks the second edition of the contest. The first edition, in 2017, saw more than 400 entries submitted.
