Ikea opened its Sterpenich shop in 2005 Paperjam

Six new shops are due to open at the site, which currently houses Swedish houseware store Ikea and outlets of sports chain Decathlon and McDonald’s, according to our colleagues at Paperjam.

Among them will be Maisons du Monde, Light Gallery, Plum’art, ExtraShop and Intersport. The sixth has yet to be announced.

The new shopping centre will span some 10,000 square metres, complementing the existing choice at the site and possibly attracting additional customers from Luxembourg. Ikea, which opened its Sterpenich store in 2005, has already proved to be a major pull, with six out of every 10 customers resident in the grand duchy.

To respond to this growing market, the Swedish chain is to launch an online shop in 2019, catering for customers with an address in Luxembourg.
