The figures were released by the DP higher education minister, Marc Hansen, on 25 September.

Altogether 31,174 students applied for financial aid; 18,853 were Luxembourg residents and 12,321 were non-resident dependents of cross-border workers and Luxembourgers living abroad.

The top three destinations of Luxembourg resident students were Germany (4,525 students), Luxembourg (3,723) and Belgium (3,479).

Hansen said the University of Luxembourg had 6,416 students representing 122 nationalities during the 2017/2018 academic year.
